Venetian Plaster in Los Angeles
Venetian plaster is a hand-applied, burnished finish built in thin layers to a depth and sheen no paint reproduces. Light moves through it rather than bouncing off it, which is why it keeps showing up in hotel lobbies, restaurants, showrooms and high-end residential interiors.
It is also the least forgiving finish we install. Every layer is applied and burnished by hand, and the result depends entirely on the person holding the trowel.

How it is applied
The substrate is prepared and skimmed dead flat — polished plaster magnifies anything underneath it. Thin coats are then applied and compressed with a steel trowel, each layer burnished before the next.
Depth comes from the layering, and sheen comes from the burnishing pressure, so the same material can finish matte, satin or nearly glass-like. Final protection depends on the location: an interior feature wall and a wet area are not sealed the same way.
Commercial considerations
In commercial interiors, plan for scale and repairability. A large lobby wall needs to be run without cold joints, which affects crew size and scheduling; we work off-hours where a space has to stay operational.
Venetian plaster is also repairable in a way that panels and wallpaper are not — damage can be re-worked and re-burnished into the surrounding surface by hand.
Color and finish selection
Color is developed in the material, and the same color reads differently depending on burnish level and the lighting in the room. We produce samples in the actual space, under the actual lighting, before a wall is committed.
